Madison March for Green Solutions - Friday, November 13th
On November thirteenth 2009 Wisconsin Student Public Interest Research Group and Big Red Go Green invite you to march with fellow students and citizens in support of green solutions. 3 - 5 pm.
This march is intended to raise awareness about the Climate Summit in December in Copenhagen, The American Clean Energy and Security Act, and climate change.
At three in the afternoon students and community members of Madison will march from library mall to the capitol to send a message to politicians about the pressing need for renewable energy sources and the urgency with which the United States should be finding these sources.
The solutions exist
- Sustainable energy production
- Public transit
- Bicycling
- Energy neutral buildings
- Energy efficiency improvements
- The politicians need to take action – talking is not enough!
This march is necessary in order to push climate change to the forefront of our political goals. It is a chance to unite in a common message, while also educating and raising awareness of citizens around the state.
Business as usual is the most dangerous path that can be taken, yet politicians are continuing to hesitate about passing significant legislation.
We need to show the politicians that we are really concerned about the future if significant action is not taken. That's why you should show up on November 13th at Library Mall.
We are at a crossroads in history:
The Kyoto protocol was adobted in 1997 in Kyoto, Japan. The Kyoto protocol aims to stabilize the level of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by putting restrictions on the participating countries emissions. The only western country that didn't ratify the protocol was the United States of America.
The Kyoto protocal runs out in 2012, and will be replaced by a new protocol. This protocol will be negotiated and adopted at the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark, December 7th to 18th 2009.
It is extremely important that the U.S. takes leadership in these negotiations and aim for an ambitious agreement so the world can avoid the worst consequences of climate change.
We will march on the capital November 13th to demand that the legislators take these issues serious and come up significant legislation. Talking is not enough, now we demand the action that is needed for problems of this proportion.
Please invite everyone you know to this march and help spread the word.
See you November 13th!
COME MAKE HISTORY!
